About us.

The Applied Data Fellowship (ADF) is a University of Chicago program based at the Harris School of Public Policy. Our program is focused on the intersection of data analysis and public policy in the United States.

While governments and non-profits are increasingly investing in data analysis capabilities, a significant opportunity exists to bridge the gap between data analysis and policy implementation. We aim to provide this bridge between data and policy through one-year fellowships. The ADF is a one-year long technical assistance program available to government, nonprofit, and social enterprise organizations.

The ADF recruits candidates who have strong data analysis, program evaluation, and public policy training. In addition to hands-on experience implementing data insights and working closely with senior-level stakeholders, Fellows receive managerial oversight, mentorship, and technical support in the form of data analysis training and oversight. Fellows will also receive one-on-one career support through the year so as to help meet their post-fellowship career goals.

our history:

The Applied Data Fellowship grew from the International Innovation Corps (IIC), a social impact fellowship. Founded in 2013, IIC embeds teams of high-quality young professionals into government and non-profit organizations to support their implementation capabilities and outcomes. IIC has worked in a range of sectors, including urban development, education, energy & environment, healthcare, social innovation, and water & sanitation. IIC has embedded over 200 Fellows in more than 70 organizations, with projects in India and Brazil.

what we do:

Utilize data to impact policy.

Building on the successes of the IIC program, we were inspired to impact policy right here in Chicago.

Since 2018, the Applied Data Fellowship has been working with local government agencies, nonprofits, foundations, and start-ups to place Fellows who utilize data to make a change in the communities they serve.

Rooted in social impact, the fellowships bridge the gap between data analysis and policy implementation, as well as innovation and impact.
